Day 1 on Fedora 15: Times Roman, Arial, Trebuchet are owned by MS!

In Linux on July 22, 2011 at 4:10 pm

One of the things that I noticed is Fedora doesnt have Times Roman and Arial as default fonts.  I’m used to having these fonts as defaults in my docs.. it turns out these are all proprietary fonts of Microsoft and requires a separate install.  No it’s not in the fedora repo.. fortunately,  others have already figured out how to do this easily and cleanly, like this one from Andreas Haerter.  To cut it short simply open a terminal and type:

1: wget “http://blog.andreas-haerter.com/_export/code/2011/07/01/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh?codeblock=1” -O “/tmp/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh”
2: chmod a+rx “/tmp/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh”
3: su -c “/tmp/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh”

and then reboot.  Thanks Andreas!

  1. This was awesomely helpful ( and works for FC12 as well as FC15 btw ). Thanks very much.
