Day 1: Installing SecureCRT 6.7.1 in Fedora 15

In Linux on July 22, 2011 at 9:16 pm

Spent a good part of yesterday trying to make SecureCRT 6.7.1 work with Fedora 15.   However, I get this error during installation:

scrt-6.7.1-188.i386 requires libpython2.4.so.1.0

the current version apparently requires a lower versioned python lib (F15 uses python 2.7).  VanDyke tech support pointed out that setting up a symlink might just work.  Tried that:

lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root      19 Jul 22 20:53 /usr/lib/libpython2.4.so -> libpython2.7.so.1.0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root      19 Jul 22 20:53 /usr/lib/libpython2.4.so.1.0 -> libpython2.7.so.1.0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root      19 Jul 21 17:27 /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so -> libpython2.7.so.1.0
-r-xr-xr-x. 1 root root 1619016 Apr 13 00:16 /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so.1.0

and installed the rpm with the depencies turned off ( –nodeps), like so:

rpm -i –nodeps scrt-6.7.1-188.rhel55.i386.rpm

(note that those are two dashes before nodeps) and got  SecureCRT 6.7.1.

To upgrade SecureCRT do the following:

 rpm -Uvh –nodeps scrt-6.7.2-229.rhel55.i386.rpm
